Broadband Phone Advanced Setup

1. Locate your Network Interface Device (NID). This is normally a gray box located outside your home or business near the power meter. This box is the demarcation point between all your inside wiring (you own this) and the phone company's outside wiring (the phone company owns this).

2. To access the inside of the NID, loosen the retaining screw or the bolt to the customer access door. You will be able to see all the wires from inside your building that go into this box. You will also be able to see the phone company's wires and the ground wire coming from the phone company - this ground should NEVER be disconnected.

3. Inside the NID, you will see sets of screw terminals that have telephone wires wrapped around them from the inside of your location. Leave these hardwired connections intact. In addition, you will see short pieces of telephone wire plugged into a corresponding jack within the NID. Unplug these from the NID to disconnect your inside jacks from the telephone company's facilities. Please be aware that if there are multiple phone numbers within your building, you need to confirm that you are disconnecting only the telephone numbers that you are moving to Broadband Phone and not disconnecting a telephone number that is not being transferred or is not owned by you. If possible, it would be a good idea to wrap a piece of electrical tape around the unplugged modular plug.

4. Close and re-secure the NID.

5. To confirm that you have disconnected everything correctly, you should be able to pick up all telephones inside your location and no dial tone should be heard on any of your instruments. If you still have a dial tone, re-confirm step three above to ensure that you have disconnected the correct telephone line from the NID. If you are still receiving dial tone inside, consult a professional telephone vendor or electrician to rectify this safety issue.

6. Use a modular telephone wire (included) to connect your Broadband Phone adapter to any of your home's modular telephone jacks. If you have a phone connected to this jack, a "Y" adapter (not included) may be used to connect your Broadband Phone adapter and phone to the same jack.

7. Insert one end of the provided Ethernet cable into the "WAN" port of your Broadband Phone adapter and the other end to your router or modem.

8. Insert the provided power adapter into your new Broadband Phone adapter and connect it to a wall outlet.

9. Optional: you may plug your PC to the "LAN" port of your new Broadband Phone adapter.
