Pine Tree Networks and Leslie Morrissette of Grahamtastic Connection are in agreement that access to the internet is a necessity for children battling life threatening diseases. Children dealing with cancer and other serious illnesses often endure long hospital stays that can leave them feeling isolated and cut off from their friends and family; their teachers and their classrooms. Pine Tree Networks and Grahamtastic Connection are working together to provide a connection to the outside world for children who are too sick to physically leave their hospital room or bed.
Grahamtastic Connection is a volunteer organization that works like a lending library offering free use of laptop computers to seriously ill children for educational purposes. A member of the child’s medical team requests a laptop and Grahamtastic Connection ships the laptop to the child to use for a determined length of time. When the child is finished with the laptop, it is mailed back to Grahamtastic Connection and prepared for another child to use.
Access to the internet is essential for children to get the most benefit from the laptop so Pine Tree Networks donates internet access to Grahamtastic Connection. Internet access allows the recipient of the laptop to access email to stay in touch with classmates and teachers or to get support from other sick children in online chat rooms. Parents and other family members can use the laptop to access the Internet to do research and learn more about other treatments or clinical trials.
Pine Tree Networks and Grahamtastic Connection are proud to work together to bring laptops and free Internet access to as many children as they can. Our wish is to provide just one small tool that will allow a seriously ill child to stay connected with their life in spite of their illness.
